Refusing
to participate in what you believe to be illegal activity or informing
appropriate authorities (or even a supervisor) about your employer's
illegal activity can expose you to retaliation ranging from harassment
to demotion and termination. The New Jersey Conscientous Employee
Protection Act (CEPA) offers a remedy.
CEPA allows collection of compensatory damages, reinstatement where
appropriate and punitive damages in certain cases. It also allows
successful litigants to recover attorney's fees.
