What are the penalties for driving on the Suspended or Revoked list?

For a first offense, you will be fined $500.00. For a second offense, you will be fined $750.00. You can be sentenced to jail for up to five days. For a third or subsequent offense, you will be fined of $1,000.00, and you will be sentenced to jail for 10 days.

For all offenses, you can lose your license for up to six months. That suspension begins after other suspensions have been served.

For all offenses where your driving privileges are suspended, your registration for all the vehicles you own, or the vehicle that you were driving, will be revoked. You must surrender your registration card and your license plates to DMV. Failure to surrender these items can result in impoundment of your vehicles. If other people drive your car(s), it is possible to get temporary registration and plates.

What if I was involved in an accident while I was on the suspended/revoked list, and someone was injured?

In addition to the other penalties above, you will be sentenced to jail for 45 days.

What if my license was suspended for not having insurance, and I am stopped for driving on the Suspended/Revoked list?

In addition to the above penalties, upon conviction, you will be fined $500.00; your license will be suspended for an additional period one to two years; and, you may be sentenced to up to 90 days in jail.

What if I am currently on the Suspended or Revoked list because of unpaid surcharges?

If you are convicted you will pay an additional $3,000.

What happens if I am on the Suspended or Revoked list at the time I was stopped for DWI?

Upon conviction you will be fined an additional $500; your license will be suspended for an additional period of one to two years; and you will be sentenced to jail for not less than 10 days or more than 90 days.

What happens if I am on the Suspended or Revoked list at the time I was stopped for DWI or Refusal and I was driving within 1,000 feet of school property, including a school crossing zone?

Your license will be suspended for an additional period of one to two years. That suspension will begin upon the completion of any prison sentence. You will be fined $500. You will be sentenced to jail for 60 to 90 days for a first offense; 120 to 150 days for a second offense; and, 180 days for a third or subsequent offense.
