What are the penalties in
New Jersey for driving without insurance?
For a first offense, you will be fined between $300 and
$1,000. You must perform community service, and you will lose your
driving privileges in New Jersey for one year.
For a subsequent conviction, you can be fined up to $5,000. You
will be sentenced to jail for 14 days, and you must perform community
service for a period of 30 days. You will lose your license for
two years. After that time, you may make application to the Director
of the DMV for a license to operate a motor vehicle. The Director
has the discretion to grant or deny that application.
What is the "Statute of Limitations" on
filing a complaint for driving with no insurance?
A complaint may be made to a municipal court at any time within
six months after the date of the alleged offense.
